Sample Pet Policy
The following pet policy can be used as a guide for landlords of apartments and rented dwellings to ensure that pet owners who are also tenants abide by a series of guidelines to assist with pest control.
1. You must register for pet(s) with the Housing Coordinator at the office in the apartment building or rented dwelling for the following purposes:
- Emergency purposes in the event that your pet is left alone in cases of fire, vacancy etc.
- Responsibility of Pest Control
2. There is a two pet limit for each unit.
3. Pets must be spayed or neutered.
4. Pets are not allowed in common areas of the apartment building including stairwells, hallways, laundry rooms, offices, and entrances.
5. Cat litter must be double bagged when disposed of. 
6. Dogs and cats must be on a leash when entering or leaving the building.
7. Pets must not use any property for defecation. This includes the playground area, all entrance, parking lots etc.
8. Noise levels of pets must be kept to a minimum. Pets must not disrupt of bother other tenants in the building.
9. You are responsible for your pet and will be required to clean up after you pet. There is a POOP and SCOOP by-law that applies to residents of Sault Ste. Marie. You can be charged if your dog defecates on city property.

The following Pet Policy is a sample Landlords may use in order to ensure that tenants comply with the registration of their pets while residing in an apartment or rented dwelling.

Please drop off completed form in the office mailbox, as we want to make sure your pet registration is up to date.
In the event that Bugland Pest Management Services is required to eradicate fleas from the apartment complex, the follow notice may be issued to tenants.
We are in the process of treating all common areas and a number of apartments for fleas. We would ask that every tenant who has a pet takes time to treat their animal for fleas. We want to remedy this problem and ensure that it does not occur again.
